Thatch Thursday – Raku Pottery Experience at Rushmere Farm Join us at Rushmere Farm for a unique afternoon of pottery and fire. This Thatch Thursday, you'll have the opportunity to glaze your own bisque-fired pot and experience the excitement of traditional Raku firing. Known for its dramatic flames, smoky effects, metallic finishes, and beautiful crackle patterns, Raku is a fast-paced and unpredictable firing process that creates truly one-of-a-kind pieces. Whether you're completely new to pottery or have previous experience, this hands-on session offers a fantastic introduction to one of the most exciting ceramic firing techniques. 1-hour sessions available from 2:30pm – 5:30pm. What's Included • 1-hour guided Raku experience • Expert guidance throughout glazing and firing • One bisque-fired pot included in the price • Use of Raku kiln, glazes, fuel, and firing materials • PPE and full safety briefing • Small group sessions for a hands-on experience Price is per pot. Important Safety Information Raku firing involves high temperatures, open flames, and hot materials. For everyone's safety, all participants must follow the instructions provided by the workshop leaders at all times. Please ensure that you: • Wear closed-toe shoes (no sandals, flip-flops, or open footwear) • Tie back long hair securely • Wear natural fibre clothing where possible (cotton, denim, wool) • Avoid loose, flowing clothing, scarves, or dangling jewellery • Follow all safety instructions and remain within designated workshop areas • Do not touch kilns, tools, pots, or reduction bins unless instructed to do so • Wear all PPE provided when handling hot work or when requested by the workshop team • Children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times • Be aware that there may be smoke and heat generated during the firing process Raku is an exciting and rewarding experience, and by following these simple safety guidelines, everyone can enjoy the process safely.
